Welcome to the Junior Section

The 2010 Season, as always very short for Junior players, is now drawing to an end and, for once, we have experienced a fair amount of dry, sunny weather!  This year has been one of building for the future for the Juniors.  We have A and B teams at Under 11, Under 13, and Under 15 with the A teams including the older players in each age group.  To support these teams in the future, we have built up the size of our Under 9 squad and have done this with help from two well qualified, external coaches; some of our Under 9’s are now more than capable of playing ‘hard ball cricket’ which normally starts at Under 11.  The result of this is that we have over 130 paid-up Junior players this year, a record in the recent history of the Club!


The Juniors’ success is due to the commitment and enthusiasm of the Coach/Managers for each team, helped by many parents and the two coaches; a huge vote of thanks to all of these!


We have had some impressive results this year.  Congratulation to the Under 11A’s and the Under 13A’s; both teams finished top of their Leagues (they each played 6 matches and won 6!) and go on to the League play-offs.  With the fine weather and good pitches, there have also been some high scoring matches.  One memorable result was a victory by our Under 13A’s over Twyford House by 121 runs with Prevan Rajh scoring a century.  This is (I think!) the first century by a Junior player in a 20 over game in the Club’s recent history; Dan Watkins came close with 99 not out!


For 2010, we have also registered a team in the new Gloucestershire Youth Cricket League; this aims to give Junior players experience of the longer form of the game and will play 45 over matches.

The Club is always on the lookout for parents to help with coaching or with scoring or umpiring; if you can help even in a small way, please contact your child's Team Manager now!
